10 August 2006
What: The MEC of Health Mr Sakhiwo Belot cordially requests the pleasure of
your company at the 30 and 40 years long service gala dinner.
When: 10 August 2006, 18h00 for 18h30
Where: President Hotel Naval Hill, Union Avenue, Bloemfontein
Dress: Formal
Why: The year 2006 marks the 50th anniversary of the women's march to the
Union Building in 1956 to protest against the extension of passes to the women
by the Apartheid regime. Thousands of women from all over South Africa,
representing all racial groups and classes, descended on Pretoria to
demonstrate their resentment of such laws. In commemorating this historic
event, our democratic government has declared the year 2006 as the year of the
women of South Africa.
The theme for this year's celebrations of August, Women's Month is "Women
marching for Equality, Development and Peace".
As part of the August Women's Month celebrations the MEC of Health is
hosting a function to recognise the female long-service officials in the
department.
How: 65 female officials from 18 institutions (clinics, district, regional
and tertiary hospitals, psychiatric complex, laundries and Free State School of
Nursing) will receive long-service certificates as a symbol of recognition and
appreciation for their commitment to the Department of Health and continuous
service delivery to the community.
