The North West MEC for Developmental Local Government and Housing, Phenye
Vilakazi, has sent his condolences to the family of Prof George Williams, who
was found dead at a hotel room in Vryburg this morning.
The 59 year old Williams was a financial advisor deployed by Vilakazi to
assist the ailing Mamusa municipality in Schweizer-Reneke last year. He had
spent seven months there at the time of his death. The cause of his death is
not yet known, but he did not have any injuries on his body.
Vilakazi said there were no suspicions of foul play at this stage. "It is a
great loss for the municipality and the province. Prof Williams was doing a
great job for the Mamusa municipality," said Vilakazi. The acting municipal
manager of Mamusa, Seth Ramagaga, said the municipality was still going to
confirm the funeral arrangements with the family.
