The Department of Education will host the Most Improved School Awards at the
Presidential Guest House, in Pretoria on Thursday, 1 March 2007.
The Deputy President, Ms Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will deliver the keynote
address at this prestigious event.
The awards are intended to improve the quality of education at schools and
to identify areas of excellence and improvement in the system in order to give
recognition where it is due and to inspire and motivate others.
The objectives of the awards are to:
* recognise schools that are performing well and have achieved good
results
* recognise schools that are showing consistent improvement
* highlight successes and identify possible role models in a manner that will
benefit all learners
* recognise schools that are creating a physically and psychologically safe
learning environment.
The awards specifically target schools that have demonstrated an increase in
the number of learners passing Mathematics and Physical Science at the end of
Grade 12.
