The North West Provincial Youth Commission will be joining the nation in
celebrating 16 June in Kokosi (Fochville) with build-up programmes towards the
celebrations, amongst others the week of 13-18 June 2006 which has been
declared National Youth Service Week and will be held in Xho Village at
Taung.
The National Service Week will be officially launched on 13 June 2006 in
Mafikeng. The programme will entail the launch of three projects, which are:
Moses-Kotane housing project (national pilot project) in the Bojanala District,
Outward-Bound project in the Southern District and the Kraaipan Museum project
in the Central District.
The launch will be divided into two sessions:
* Session 1, where all commissioners and the registered youth will be
involved in a voluntary service at Are Aganeng Primary school in Signal Hill at
08h30. The service will include painting and cleaning of the school.
* Session 2, will include handing over of Certificates of Appreciation to
all the participants of the National Youth Service (NYS) Programme. This will
be in a form of a dinner and the Premier of the province, Edna Molewa, will
hand over those Certificates.
The main objectives of the National Youth Service week are to profile
National Youth Service Programme, as it is a policy adopted by Cabinet in 2003
to inculcate a culture of service by supporting youth to participate
constructively in nation building; to provide a vehicle for enhancing the
delivery of the country's development objectives especially to disadvantaged
and underserved communities; to give prominence to the NYS approach in
addressing the housing backlog; to showcase youth in action in providing
service to the community; to conscientise young people and the broader
community about the benefit of the programme.
The formal launch will take place at the Botanical Gardens (Mafikeng) at
