The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Education in the Limpopo Legislature, is saddened by the death of two learners at the Lekgolo Primary School in Kolobe-Tona Village, within the Greater Letaba Municipality.
Chairperson Violet Mathye would like to send condolences to the school, the community of Kolobe-Tona, the families and friends of the deceased children, "who left home to school with the expectation of coming back to their parents, in the afternoon", Said Mathiye.
“We appeal for restraint amidst reports of parents and community members who were demonstrating at the school, calling for the School Principal to be removed. The Departmentt of Education and the Police must be given space to conduct investigations into the deaths of these children. What makes this more devastating is that, both children are from the same family, and playing the ‘blame-game’ now, would only exacerbate their grief. We also wish the other two learners who are in hospital a speedy recovery”, Added Mathiye.
The Chairperson would also like to salute the MEC for the Department of Education, Polly Boshielo, whom upon hearing the tragic news, led a government delegation and rushed to the school and the family of the deceased.
