Sport, Arts and Culture Minister to brief the nation on the COVID-19 Sector Relief Fund
The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa will host a media briefing to update the nation on the COVID-19 Relief Fund for the sector.
On 15 March, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a state of disaster following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. On 17 March Minister held a stakeholder meeting with the sector and on 25 March, the Minister announced a R150 Million Relief Fund. The deadline for submissions was initially 4 April 2020 but was then extended to 6 April 2020, to accommodate those that had not submitted due to limitations of the national lockdwn. After processing the data, the Department had nearly 5, 000 applications from the arts and culture sector and 300 from the sport sector. The Department also advertised a tender for service providers that could facilitate our live streaming platforms and they have since been appointed..
The adjudicators have briefed the Minister and he will update the nation on the outcomes and pending outcomes of the adjudication process, as well as address the challenges faced by the Department and present further solutions. The details of the briefing are as follows:
