Gauteng to launch the registration of embossers
Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, will on Monday, 03 July 2023, officially launch the registration of vehicle number plate manufacturers at the department’s Head office, in Marshalltown, Johannesburg.
The launch is aimed at promoting and encouraging embossers to submit applications and be legalised as manufacturers of number plates, and to ensure compliance with existing regulations.
The Department of Roads and Transport is in the process of implementing the new, secure and tamper-proof number plate system in line with the call made by the Premier of Gauteng during his State-of-the-Province address in February 2023.
In line with the legislation, Section 5 of the National Road Traffic Act prohibits Manufactures of number plates from manufacturing, selling and distributing number plates unless they are registered as Manufacturers of Number Plates.
