MDDA to unveil the brand-new studios at Radio Riverside 98.2 FM
The Media Development & Diversity Agency (MDDA) will unveil the brand-new state-of-the-art broadcast studios at Radio Riverside 98.2 FM, on Friday, 20 May 2022, in Kakamas under the ZF Mngcawu District Local Municipality in the Northern Cape province, South Africa.
The station was formed in 1997/98 by a group of community members who were inspired by the late Mr. Saal who was an inspiration to many activists within the Upington community. Radio Riverside got its name from the community members who were invited to submit proposals for the name of the station and Riverside was adopted.
Radio Riverside went on air for the first time on 11 October 1999 after using May to October as trial period. Since October 1999 the station has evolved into a multi award winning radio station and remains one of the best Community radio stations in South Africa. The winner of the best community radio in South Africa in 2013, the radio station plays a dynamic role in connecting citizens with government and holding those in power accountable.
The new state-of-the-art studios will elevate the quality of broadcasting, opening more areas of the Northern Cape such as the town of Kakamas, which is predominantly Afrikaans speaking Grikua, N//u and Nama tribes. This will not only address access to information, but preservation of culture and languages spoken by all above tribes.
The unveiling of State-of-the-Art Studios is scheduled as follows:
Date: Friday, 20 May 2022
Time: 09h00-13h00
