National School of Government hosts masterclass for women in the public sector, 3 Aug

The Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg and former Deputy President of the Republic, Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, will lead a special National School of Government (NSG) MasterClass on 3 August 2023.

The MasterClass is entitled Breaking the Glass Ceiling through Coaching and Executive Leadership Programmes for Women in the Public Sector. Dr Mlambo-Ngcuka will be joined by three distinguished discussants, Ms Tsakani Maluleke, the Auditor-General of South Africa; Ms Nolitha Fakude, the Chairperson of the Anglo-American South Africa; Ms Busisiwe Memela-Khambula, the Chief Executive officer of the South African Social Security Agency, for the high-level discussion.

Women in the public sector are invited to join the MasterClass for this special discussion. The glass ceiling is an invisible barrier that undermines essential professional and personal characteristics such as self-esteem, self-efficacy and optimism while draining the energies of women, including knowledge and financial resources. Discriminatory practices associated with the glass ceiling leave women at a disadvantage in their job choices, salary and overall prestige.

The perception of a glass ceiling also discourages women from seeking and obtaining well-deserved promotions, leading to a decline in their productivity and limiting their ability to build virtual networks and support structures in their careers.
