NEDLAC hosts annual summit on September 8th
Deputy President Paul Mashatile will, on Friday 08 September 2023, deliver a keynote address at the National Economic Development Labour Council’s (NEDLAC) 28th Annual Summit in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province.
Convened under the theme: "Resilience in the face of adversity: Social partners’ preparedness to manage crises," the Summit will be the Deputy President’s first address to the Social Partners since he was appointed in March this year. The Summit provides an opportunity for a larger delegation of NEDLAC social partners from organised business, community, government, and organised labour, as well as other stakeholders, to receive and consider a report on the activities of the institution.
The focus of this year’s Summit will be on how social partners and Government can work together in the event of crisis-type situations such as the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change impacts.
NEDLAC is South Africa’s pinnacle of social dialogue and compact, a forum where the Government, Private Sector, Organised Labour and Community groups collaborate on economic, labour, and development issues, as well as other challenges confronting the country.
It is envisaged that the Deputy President’s address will focus on social partnership in the current socio-economic context and its significance in addressing modern South Africa’s challenges such as poverty and unemployment, the energy crisis and the role of NEDLAC Social Partners in establishing policies and implementing programmes jointly to resolve the country’s current socio-economic challenges.
