statements
18 April 2007
The Ministry of Environmental Affairs and Tourism has today sent a copy of a
speech made by Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk on 14 March 2007, where he
spelt out South Africa's Climate Roadmap for 2007 and beyond, to the DA
spokesperson on Environment, Mr Rafeek Shah. Mr Shah today in a statement
claimed that government has no climate change plan. This ignorance was further
exacerbated by the fact that Mr Shah did not attend a Parliamentary Workshop
that was held recently on 19 and 20 March 2007, which was attended by the
Minister, the Portfolio Committee on Environment and Tourism, the Select
Committee on Land and Environmental Affairs, senior government officials and
public entities, where this issue was extensively discussed.
Please find below a copy of the Minister's statement made on 14 March 2007,
which was covered extensively in the media: http://www.info.gov.za/speeches/2007/07031415451001.htm.
