M Tshabalala-Msimang to mark national STIs and Condom Week, 23

Minister of Health to give a report back on the impact of the
national Sexually Transmitted Infections and Condom Week at eMahukwini,
Uthukela District in Ladysmith KwaZulu–Natal tomorrow

The Minister of Health, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, will address the
community of eMahukwini in Ladysmith in an event to mark the end of national
Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Condom Week tomorrow on Thursday, 23
February 2006.

The Department of Health has held a series of events in all provinces over
the past week to highlight the importance of preventing and treating sexually
transmitted infections and promoting the use of condoms.

The Minister is expected to report back on the impact this campaign has had
in increasing the number of people who seek treatment for STIs in the country
and in significantly improving the distribution of condoms.

Hundreds of people from the villages of Driefontein, Kleinfontein,
eMagazini, eMtateni, eButlerskraal and Schoeman are expected to attend the
event, which seeks to highlight the importance of early detection and early
treatment of infections.
