10 August 2006

Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana has conveyed his sincere condolences to
the families of the two deceased guards who died while in the line of duty at a
farm in the Free State, after they were attacked by three lions yesterday
morning.

The Department of Labour’s inspectors are still investigating the details of
the tragic incident which took place at a game farm near Hennenman.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased were on guard at an
unused farm game lodge when the animals went through an electrified wire cage
in which they were kept.

The guards’ bodies, whose ages are estimated between 36 and 76, were found
at about 50 metres from their work stations.
