Limpopo Public Works on death of E Mavuso

E Mavuso's death shocks the Provincial Communication Services
(PCS)

15 January 2007

The Provincial Communication Services would like to send deep felt
condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the late Elvis Mavuso,
Communications' Senior Manager at Limpopo Department of Public Works. Mr Mavuso
passed away on Saturday, 13 January 2007, after his vehicle collided with a bus
near Meropa Casino.

The passing on of Mr Mavuso is a great loss not only to the family and
friends, but to the rest of Limpopo Provincial Government and the communication
fraternity in general.

Citizens of Limpopo have been robbed of a selfless cadre who was at all
times, ready to serve his people selflessly with utmost dedication and
commitment. He served the people of this province and the African National
Congress (ANC) his political home, in many ways and in various capacities.

To us, he will forever be remembered for his openness and his persuasive
skill to convince people towards his understanding.

Mavuso was a teacher by profession who after the 2000 local government
elections got to be deployed in the Baphalaborwa Municipality as a Chief Whip
where he did his work with passion and commitment. The councillors he worked
with fondly remember him as a leader who was very instrumental in maintaining
discipline amongst councillors and serving the community with passion. In 1998,
Elvis was appointed Senior Education Specialist for the Mopani District until
he became Acting Chief Education Specialist based in Polokwane Head Office.

He was later appointed in the Department of Public works as a Media Liaison
Officer in 2001, but he was still able to balance his work with his municipal
responsibilities until the end of his term in April 2004. As a Media Liaison
Officer and later Senior Manager of Communications services, Mavuso, as he was
affectionately known, was a member of the Provincial Government Communicators'
Forum where communicators meet to share experiences and jointly execute the
mandate of the provincial government from the communications point of view.

The forum will miss his constructive and lively engagements on critical
communication issues. In the very last Provincial Government Communication
Forum (PGCF) meeting in Phalaborwa last year, Mavuso reminded communicators
that their role is to execute decisions of government as taken by political
principals and not challenge or seek alternate explanations to them. His life
was dedicated to serving people of Limpopo and this will forever remain in our
minds.

The memorial service for the late Mavuso will take place on Wednesday, 17
January 2007, at 12h00 at Jack Botes Hall, Polokwane while the funeral service
takes place on Saturday, 20 January 2007, at Namakgale in Phalaborwa.

May his soul rest in peace!
