L Sisulu to launch housing development agency, 2 Mar

Housing Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and all Housing MECs launches
the Housing Development Agency

10 February 2009

The Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu and all Housing MECs will launch the
Housing Development Agency, a special purpose vehicle which will acquire, hold,
develop and release land for residential and community purposes to enable the
creation of sustainable human settlements.

Following a comprehensive review of the housing delivery value chain,
government realised that access to well located land has had a negative impact
on the implementation of the breaking new ground policy. The acquisition,
holding and release of land as well as the delay in processing land
development, posed a serious threat to the fast-tracking of housing
delivery.

Therefore the Housing Development Agency will address the shortage of well
located land for housing projects and facilitate rapid development of
sustainable human settlements by proactively improving inter-governmental
relations across the three spheres of government. This will ensure that needed
inputs are delivered and they address the supply of much needed project
management capacity for government housing programme.

Details of the event are as follows:

Venue: Durban ICC
Time: 18:30 for 19:30
