prevalence survey
28 September 2006
The Department of Correctional Services invites your institution to witness
and cover our Deputy Minister Ms Loretta Jacobus and National Commissioner
Linda Mti as they lead a departmental campaign for assessing the prevalence of
HIV among officials and offenders. The ceremony will take place at the Head
Office of Correctional Services in Tshwane, 124 Church Street on Monday 2
October 2006 from 09h30.
Ms Jacobus, Commissioner Mti and scores of officials will receive voluntary
counselling and testing as part of launching an HIV prevalence survey that is
financed by the US Presidential Emergency Programme for Aids Relief (PEPFAR).
The survey is part of the department's comprehensive HIV and AIDS management
programme aimed at waging an onslaught on the pandemic, as the current record
of 5% known HIV infected offenders is not reflective of the extent of HIV
prevalence in Correctional Facilities.
Your presence and coverage of the occasion will be highly appreciated as a
contribution in efforts to turn around the country's correctional system into
one of the world's best in improving external and internal publics' safety.
Also set to attend the ceremony are Members of Parliament, some offenders and
other champions of the fight against the pandemic.
