The Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Kgaogelo Lekgoro, will honour women
who have been doing good work in their communities to alleviate poverty and
help the marginalised.
The intention is to encourage more people to be involved in Community
Poverty Alleviation Programmes that are aimed at removing people from poverty
to self-reliance. This is in line with the commemoration of the women's
struggles that have inspired many women in communities to rise against
adversity.
Trophies, certificates and cash prizes will be given to three winners. This
is in recognition of the work done in women-driven poverty alleviation
co-operatives, home-based care centres for child-headed households, poverty
alleviation programmes at development centres, Early Childhood Development
Centres, youth programmes and old age facilities.
