programme in preparation for the 2010 World Cup

The Minister of Transport, Honourable J T Radebe will tomorrow Tuesday, 21
November 2006, launch the accelerated rolling stock programme in preparation
for the 2010 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup
as well as meeting future passenger demands.
The launch will also enable the Department of Transport through South
African Rail Commuter Corporation (SARCC)-Metrorail to showcase its
interventions in addressing public transport challenges through its investment
in rolling stock upgrades and purchasing of new coaches towards the 2010 World
Cup. The national Department of Transport together with SARCC-Metrorail will
use this occasion to showcase the newly upgraded coach (10M5), which will serve
the Tshwane corridor as part of the revitalisation of rail transport.
The launch will also be attended by the Gauteng MEC of Public Transport,
Roads and Works Ignatius Jacobs and Mayor of Tshwane Gwen Ramokgopa.
