The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission (IEC),
Mosotho Moepya, said in Pretoria today (27 July) that two of the contested
wards went to the African National Congress and one went to an independent
candidate in the municipal ward by-elections which took place on Wednesday.
Voter turnout varied between 30,84% and 47,17% with an average of 40,60%
The new councillors are:
* Gawula Freddie Maluleke, an independent candidate, in Ward 21 in Greater
Giyani (Giyani) � LIM331, Limpopo
* Mohube Michael Ntobeng of the African National Congress in Ward 23 in
Makhuduthamaga (Ngwaritsi) � LIM473, also Limpopo
* Sizwe Andrew Maphisa of the African National Congress in Ward 2 in Mossel Bay
(Mossel Bay) � WC043, Western Cape
