Icasa on regulations for people with disabilities

Icasa issues a notice to formulate regulations to meet the
needs of people with disabilities

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has issued
a notice of its intention to make regulations in respect of the electronic
communications, broadcasting and postal sectors to meet the needs of people
with disabilities. The purpose of the regulations is to prescribe the Code on
people with disabilities to be adhered to by all licence categories. The
prescription of Code on people with disabilities is in terms of section 70 of
the Electronic Communications Act, no 36 of 2005 as well as section 2 (h) of
the Postal Services Act No 124 of 1998.

Interested parties are therefore invited to submit written representations
with regards to the proposed regulations. The representations should reach
Icasa by no later than 16h00 on 20 July 2007.

Where possible such representations can be forwarded through an email
to:
nmakhubu@icasa.org.za or tdube@icasa.org.za.

Interested persons wishing to make oral presentations should indicate their
willingness to do so, including the duration they wish to be allocated for such
presentations, which duration shall not exceed an hour.

Copies of the draft regulations can be obtained from Icasa library at Block
