Gauteng to host Youth Izimbizo during Youth Month, 13 Jun

Gauteng Youth Imbizo on course for this week

11 June 2007

The Gauteng Provincial Government will on Wednesday, 13 June 2007, continue
with its plans to host Youth Izimbizo at venues throughout the province. The
Izimbizo form part of several events being held to commemorate Youth Month.
This year's theme for Youth Month is 'Deepening Youth Participation in
Development through Service' and many of the activities are being co-ordinated
by the Gauteng Youth Commission and held in partnership with the Gauteng
Provincial Government (GPG) and local government.

The Gauteng Youth Izimbizo provide an ideal platform for youth across
Gauteng to make their voices heard and interact directly with government
leaders and members of the Gauteng Youth Commission. They form part of
government's programme of dialogue with residents that allows for feedback from
communities and the streamlining of service delivery aimed at improving
people's lives.

The venues for the Youth Izimbizo, to be held on Wednesday, 13 June 2007,
are as follows:

* Premier Mbhazima Shilowa: Lord Khanyile Multi-Purpose Community Centre
(MPCC), Ivory Park
* MEC Barbara Creecy: White House Open Ground, Sicelo Shiceka
* MEC Angie Motshekga: HH Ngakane Community Hall, Kwa-Thema
* MEC Paul Mashatile: Marquee next to Diepsloot MPCC, Diepsloot
* MEC Qedani Mahlangu: Winterveldt MPCC, Winterveldt
* MEC Brian Hlongwa: Mamelodi West Community Hall, Mamelodi
* MEC Kgaogelo Lekgoro: Mandela Village Community Hall, Hammanskraal
* MEC Ignatius Jacobs: Paul Nel Community Hall, Bekkersdal
* MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu: Refilwe Community Hall, Refilwe
* MEC Nomvula Mokonyane: Rethabiseng Community Hall, Rethabiseng
* MEC Firoz Cachalia: Marquee, Orange Farm MPCC, Orange Farm

Public meetings, which will be addressed by provincial and local government
leaders and members of the Gauteng Youth Commission will start at 15h00 and
will in some areas be preceded by walkabouts.

The GPG regards youth development as an important part of the province's
vision to transform Gauteng into a globally competitive city region which is
both prosperous and provides for the needs of all its citizens. In 2005, the
GPG adopted the Gauteng Integrated Youth Development Strategy for 2004-09,
which provides a basis for the implementation of a variety of policies and
programmes aimed at youth development.

Last year the GPG established the Gauteng Youth Commission to advise the
provincial government on youth development matters and to strengthen the
partnership between government and youth in the province.
