Extended public participation process on the Waste Management
Bill to solicit inputs from municipalities and other stakeholders

The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism will hold a conference
to workshop the Waste Management Bill with stakeholders from municipalities,
non-governmental organisations, industries and private sector from 22 to 23
March 2007 at the Emperor's Palace in Gauteng under the theme "Waste Management
for a cleaner South Africa - a local government perspective."

The conference will provide a platform for local government representatives
and other affected and interested parties to discuss the content of the draft
Waste Management Bill, and its potential implications for local government and
current waste management practices.

As part of the conference, the Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and
Tourism Rejoice Mabudafhasi will award certificates and prizes to the national
winners of the Cleanest Town Competition for the 2006/07 cycle on 22 March
2007.
