Environmental Affairs and Tourism to host Small Medium and Micro
Enterprises workshop, 11 May

Small Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) workshop to focus on
opportunities presented by the 2010 World Cup

The Department Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) in collaboration
with Tourism Enterprise Programme (TEP) have invited all small tourism
businesses to attend a workshop focused on the opportunities presented by the
2010 World Cup.

Over 1 400 SMMEs within the tourism industry have been invited to attend the
workshop.

A series of presentations is been lined up and will cover the following
topics:

*the 2010 Local Organising Committee (LOC) will provide an overall
perspective of 2010 and will highlight opportunities for SMMEs,

* Match, the company appointed by FIFA to deliver the accommodation and
ticketing solutions for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, will present the
significantly revised non-hotel agreement and the benefits associated with
signing the agreement,

* the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) will explain the
importance of quality assurance and the process of grading in order to
participate in 2010,

* TEP will share its 2010 strategy which includes the Host City Product
Survey Programme, toolkit project and training programme.

The workshop will be officially opened by Dr Patrick Matlou, the Deputy
Director-General (DDG) for tourism at the Department of Environmental Affairs
and Tourism. Other speakers include Itumelng Dlamini from the LOC, Charlotte
van Rooyen of Match and Senzeni Ndebele of the Tourism Grading Council.

Venue: Room 22, Durban International Convention Centre
Time: Coffee and tea served at 09h30, workshop commences strictly at 10h00,
lunch will be served at 13h00, workshop closes at 15h30.
