plans
7 March 2007
The provincial Health Department is concerned about continued
misrepresentation regarding its 10âyear service transformation plan and would
like to urge those who are hellâbent on distorting facts around this plan to
put a stop to their deliberate distortion of facts as it suggests an
underhanded agenda against the department.
We also wish to make it clear that there are no secret plans in the
department and that those suggestions are untrue and misleading. This kind of
scathing treatment meted out to the department is not justified.
The department is extremely concerned about these grossly exaggerated facts.
It is not true that staff at some of the hospitals have been informed that they
will be relocated to other hospitals, or some wards closed down and services
sourced elsewhere.
The department regards the process of developing a longâterm plan aimed at
improving health services in the Eastern Cape as a very critical and necessary
step, informed by national processes and principles.
The department remains committed to the provision of quality healthcare to
the people of the Eastern Cape and will work continuously to improve the
quality of health service in the province.
Following a provincial indibano where departmental priorities were
identified, stakeholder inputs were sought and considered in the draft.
Further consultations about the plan will resume on Monday, 12 March. These
consultations include unions, hospital or clinic boards, non-governmental
organisations (NGOs), the private health sector, politicians and the
public.
Those individuals who went out of their way to suggest that the department
has kept this plan a secret are plain wrong.
