Defence on T Meyi's death

Death of a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) member,
Trooper Victor Saba Meyi

Chief of the South African (SA) Army, Lieutenant General Solly Shoke,
regrettably announces the passing away of Trooper Victor Saba Meyi (23), during
a training exercise at General De Wit Training Area in Bloemfontein on
Wednesday, 13 September 2006.

Trooper Meyi was stationed at one SA Tank Regiment in Bloemfontein. The
incident happened at approximately 07h30. The member was rushed to Pelonomi
Hospital where doctors declared him dead at 08h16.

A board of inquiry has been convened and will run concurrently with an
investigation by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

He is survived by his mother and family. Funeral arrangements have not yet
been finalised.
