B Sonjica on passing away of R Rankapole and K Molotsi

Statement by Ms Buyelwa Sonjica, Minister of Minerals and
Energy, on the passing away of two staff members

10 April 2007

"It is with great sadness and regret that the Department of Minerals and
Energy (DME) has lost two valued staff members over the past weekend. The two
officials, namely Mr Rosbert (Ross) Rankapole, who was the Regional Manager at
the Limpopo office and Mr Karel Mothogamong Molotsi, who was based in the North
West office as Inspector of Mine Health and Safety."

"The unfortunate and untimely passing away of these two members of staff has
once again robbed the Department of a wealth of knowledge and experience
necessary for us to deliver on the mandate given by the people of our country.
On behalf of the Department of Minerals and Energy, the government of South
Africa and the people that were so ably served by the two colleagues, I humbly
convey our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. May their
families take comfort in the understanding that we as the DME family also share
in their grief."

"We take solace in the knowledge that their untimely death has bequeathed us
with fond memories and inspiration of unflinching commitment to service worthy
of celebration and emulation by all DME members of staff and public servants in
general," said Minister Sonjica.
