Gauteng Health MEC to visit senior citizens in Soweto

Gauteng Health MEC Brian Hlongwa will visit senior citizens of the Maitiso A
Bagolo organisation in Meadowlands, Soweto, on Thursday, 12 July 2007.

During the visit the MEC will donate blankets and provide a warm lunch to
help the 150 pensioners beat the winter chill.

Founded in 2006 by five Soweto women, Maitiso A Bagolo is a community-based
organisation which mainly tends to the social needs of elderly people and
orphans affected by HIV and AIDS.

Since its inception the organisation has demonstrated amazing potential
through its efforts to raise awareness about financial challenges,
psychological abuse and social alienation of senior citizens.

Officials of the Department of Home Affairs will be at the event with the
mobile office to process applications. The South African Social Security Agency
will also be in attendance to deal with matters pertaining to the payment of
grants.
