Creecy to unveil framework for funding in sport

20 April 2007

The Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Barbara Creecy,
will unveil a framework for funding in sport to all role players, particularly
sporting structures that have little or no access to resources.

The framework, to be launched on Tuesday, 24 April, is aimed at streamlining
funding for sports federations towards the implementation of development
initiatives through the mass participation programme across the province and
also to ensure that sport development contributes to shared economic growth.
The framework is aimed at providing necessary resources to beneficiaries that
would enhance the development of sports through mass participation in
Gauteng.

The framework will allow the department to forge enduring partnerships with
public and private institutions using sport and recreation programmes to
strengthen nation building and social cohesion. It will also establish a
standardised manner for the disbursement of funds to all prospective
beneficiaries.

"By launching this framework we want to ensure effective sports development
and transformation in the province and also ensure transformation of the sport
sector," said Creecy.

During the launch of the framework, Creecy will explain requirements for
stakeholders which, amongst others, include the process of applying for funding
and issues relating to qualifying for funding from the department.
