female business executive for provincial audit office
31 May 2006
Pretoria - The AG has announced the appointment of Andronicca Masemola
CA(SA) to the position of Business Executive for the Gauteng office of the
Auditor-General (AG). Andronicca is the first black female business executive
appointed to head up a provincial audit office.
Andronicca previously worked for Rand Merchant Bank in Equities Trading
where she was responsible for managing various accounting projects. She also
served as chairperson of the Equities Trading Transformation Committee and was
a member of the Rand Merchant Bank Junior Board.
Prior to joining Rand Merchant Bank, she worked for Fisher Hoffman PKF Inc.,
a private audit firm, as a senior audit manager. Andronicca is a familiar face
at the AG, having been first appointed in 1999 as an assistant audit manager
and risen to the senior audit manager position before leaving the AG to join
PKF. She began her working career at the South African Revenue Service as a tax
compliance auditor.
She holds a BCompt and BCompt (Hons) obtained through part-time studies at
the University of South Africa (Unisa), a National Diploma in Accounting from
the Technikon Northern Gauteng and a National Diploma in Financial Markets from
the Academy of Financial Markets.
Androniccaâs appointment at the AG underlines the organisationâs commitment
to the furtherance of employment equity. This is borne out by the number of
women currently holding management positions at the AG.
âAndronicca is not only highly qualified but she brings with her a passion
and commitment for the audit world that will be of tremendous benefit to the AG
and its clientsâ, said Wally van Heerden, AG corporate executive manager.
She replaces outgoing Imran Vanker who has been appointed as the AGâs
Business Executive International Audit and Director on the United Nation (UN)
Board of Auditors in New York. In this position he will oversee the management
of the UNâs external audit. Imran was the business executive of Gautengâs
provincial AG office for two years. Prior to this he worked for KMPG.
Mandated by the Constitution, the Auditor-General of South Africa is
responsible for the auditing of national and provincial state departments and
administrations, all municipalities and any other institution or accounting
entity required by national and provincial legislation to be audited by the AG.
Its purpose is to promote public accountability in all tiers of government. As
an independent organisation, the Auditor-General is answerable and accountable
only to Parliament.
