Female Farmer of the Year Awards 2007

28 August 2007

The Department of Agriculture will host the 8th edition of the Annual Female
Farmer of the Year Awards 2007. The award ceremony will be held in Nelspruit
Mpumalanga at the eMnotweni Arena on 31 August 2007 and is scheduled to start
at 18h30 for 19h00.

The objective of the awards is to profile and acknowledge the role played by
women in the success of agriculture/farming and the eradication of poverty in
South Africa.

Over the years the awards have selected winners who went on to win the
prestigious Shoprite-Checkers Women of the Year Award as it happened this year
with the crowning of Linda Olga Nghatsane who won the 2006 Female Farmer of the
Year.

The Awards are divided into four categories:

* Top Producer Export Markets
* Top Producer National Markets
* Top Producer Informal Markets
* Top Producer for Household Use.

The category winners will walk away with R100 000 in addition to the R50 000
they would have won in the provincial leg of the event. The national overall
winner will walk away with an additional R50 000, totalling R200 000. The
department would like to encourage relatives, friends and acquaintances of
nominees to support them in anyway possible; however admission to the function
is per invitation only.
