Western Cape MEC for Transport and Public Works, Marius Fransman, joins taxi
association members and local government officials during the official opening
ceremony of the new taxi facility in Oudtshoorn.
A very successful Transport Month was held during which the taxi ranks and
public transport facilities in Grabouw and Oudtshoorn were opened to showcase
the infrastructure that has been completed to accommodate the new
recapitalisation public transport vehicles.
Apart from reintroducing railway police to trains in the Western Cape, MEC
Marius Fransman handed over bicycles at various venues to promote the use of
non-motorised transport among young people and initiated the "Walking Bus"
campaign, which focuses on escorting people safely to public transport
facilities.
The Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA) Minibus Taxi Awards
ceremony was held to celebrate the achievement of 200 learners in the Western
Cape's taxi industry who have undergone training in professional driving,
business administration and customer care.
