The annual Provincial Farm Worker of the Year awards ceremony will take
place tonight at the Protea Hotel, Technopark, Stellenbosch, at 18h30 for
19h00.
The Provincial Farm Worker of the Year competition is a very important
project of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture. The competition was
established to give recognition to the valuable and important contribution of
the farm worker towards the sustainability and growth of agriculture in the
Western Cape and South Africa and showcases the calibre of farm workers we have
in the Western Cape.
The competition was initiated in 2002 in the Hex Valley by the Hex Valley
Table Grape Association, with Sanlam's financial support. The competition has
grown from 36 entries in the Hex Valley in 2002 to the participation of six
regions in 2006 with 404 entries. This year seven regions took part namely
Breede River Valley, Hex River Valley, Ceres Bo-op-die-berg, Piket Bo-Berg,
