The Minister of Social Development is to undertake an official visit to
Iceland and Norway to strengthen co-operation in the field of social
development, from 7-15 March 2007. The objective of the bilateral visit is to
observe and share experiences on:
* comprehensive social security
* anti-poverty strategies and community development, especially focusing on
working with the church and civil society in poverty eradication
* strengthening the family and dealing with societal challenges such as
children in conflict with the law, social impact of HIV/AIDS, drug and
substance abuse
* training of social workers.
Dr Skweyiya will meet amongst others, Ministers responsible for Health and
Social Security, Education, Church and Culture, Finance and International
Development, as well as representatives of the Church of Norway, Social Welfare
Union and Non-Governmental Organisations.
The visit is expected to pave a way for further collaboration with both
countries in various areas in the field of social development.
