Agency Board Members
16 October 2007
Johannesburg â The Minister of Social Development, Zola Skweyiya, today
announced the new members of the Board of the National Development Agency
(NDA). The announcement was made at the NDA's anti-poverty conference which is
taking place in Woodmead, Sandton.
"We welcome the new board members and wish them challenging and productive
times at the NDA. They are fortunate to be taking over from the outgoing Board
which has done sterling work to turn the NDA around in all respects, making it
more focused and able to meet its mandate of serving the poorest of the poor.
It is through their hard work and excellent working relationship with
management that the NDA received a clean audit report for the 2006/7 financial
year," said Skweyiya.
Members of the new board, who have a strong background in community
development and good governance, bring a wealth of experience and diverse
skills to the effective running of the NDA. Members are representative of all
the nine provinces and cover government, community-based organisations,
religious sector and traditional leaders.
"Cabinet chose to ensure continuity and that the Board builds on its gains
by maintaining the participation of Marcia Manong, Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana,
Themba Masilela and Professor Thoko Mayekiso. Cabinet also paid attention to
the involvement of all the provinces of the country in the NDA with an emphasis
on rural development and gender by appointing David Adler, Chief Ngove, Wallace
Mgoqi, Mmoloki Pheelwane, Muthahadini Alfred Madzivhandila, Nombuso Adelaide
Maphalala, Themba Masilela, Phuti Johannes Mokobane and Steve Mohlabi. Other
government departments will appoint their representatives to the Board soon,"
announced Skweyiya.
The new board will serve for a period of three years starting from 25
October 2007. Skweyiya also announced that Bishop Mpumlwana will serve another
three-year term as chairperson.
