Education and Training Authority (HWSETA)
10 April 2007
KwaZulu-Natal (Acting) Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize will deliver the keynote
address at the official launch of the Health and Welfare Sector Education and
Training Authority provincial office in Durban to be held at the Southern Sun
Elangeni Hotel in Durban today Tuesday, 10 April 2007 at 18h00.
In March 2006, Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, launched the Joint
Initiative on Priority Skills Acquisition (Jipsa) which seeks to bridge the
priority skills gap via innovative training methods. Growth must be accelerated
and it must be shared. When growth is shared the majority of our people can
witness first hand that the economic boom times are here. In this way our
people will have moved from the periphery to the centre of the economy.
The SETAs therefore play a critical role in the socio-economic strategy of
our country and province. They are critical tools in ensuring that the state
beefs up its capacity to deliver. This is in line with the decision of the
Growth and Development Summit of 2003 that skills development must become a top
priority if we are to lift the country from mediocrity to excellence. All media
are invited to attend. Please note picture opportunities.
Journalists are kindly requested to confirm their attendance at this event
by no later than 14h00 today (10 April 2007) with Logan Maistry on 083 644 4050
or at maistryl@premier.kzntl.gov.za.
