Inaugural conference on Young women and development

The National Youth Commission convened a three-day conference on young women
and development at Birchwood Hotel, Boksburg, East Rand on 29 to 31 August
2007. In attendance are young women in business, government, political parties
and various sectors.

Members of the media are invited to a briefing which will take place as
follows:

The purpose of the conference is among others, to bridge the divide between
youth activists and the modern (middle ground and professional) young women, to
serve as a platform for young women to dialogue on issues affecting them, with
a view to develop recommendations for implementation by various partners.
Hosted within the broader theme of ensuring social cohesion, and in partnership
with (young south African women in dialogue) YSAWID, the conference is seen as
one intervention aimed at profiling issues of young women, and the girl-child
during the women's month and within the current debates taking place.

Expected to emerge from the meeting is the identification of key areas of
engagement and implementation by various stakeholders, among others.
