The National Youth Commission (NYC) in partnership with the Flemish
Government are convening the third Local Government conference on youth. The
conference strives to reach the following objectives;
* To assess progress on the institutionalisation of youth development with
regard to the municipal youth guidelines (by presenting the research findings).
This objective will focus on the implementation of elements such as: municipal
youth policy, institutional structures and mechanisms, youth units in
municipalities, the role and responsibilities of the youth units in
municipalities.
* To familiarise the newly appointed youth officers and youth councillors
with the current developments in youth development at local government
level.
* To integrate youth development into Local Government Youth Agenda for the
next five years e.g. Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) and Local Economic
Development (LEDs).
* To give municipalities an opportunity to fully commit themselves to youth
development in the country.
The conference will among other stakeholders be attended by young people,
all municipalities, youth organisations, state departments and youth
practitioners and academics national.
