Western Cape Sport and Recreation to host meeting on 2010 preparations,
27 Oct

Western Cape government moves to inform foreign missions and
keep them abreast of 2010 developments

24 October 2006

In a first move to communicate the provincial preparations for 2010
effectively and better with the international community, the Western Cape
government will host a breakfast for about 30 Consul Generals based in the
province at the Radisson Hotel on Friday, 27 October 2006, at 08h00.

The breakfast meeting is the brainchild of MEC Jacobs to ensure that foreign
countries representatives based in Cape Town were fully informed about the
preparations and developments on 2010.

"I have noticed with regret the conflicting and sometimes confusing media
reports on the ability of South Africa and the City to successfully host 2010.
We have a huge international community presence in our midst, some with great
experience in organising similar events in their own countries and yet no one
has made an effort to communicate with them. I am thrilled by such an
overwhelming response so that the province could set the record straight and
open new channels of communications with the international community and
potentially there are many possibilities for us to enhance our plans," says Mr
Jacobs.

Nearly 30 Consul Generals have confirmed their attendance. The provincial
government will make a presentation and there will be an opportunity for
members of the Diplomatic Corps to ask the provincial government any questions
of clarity. Consul Generals are representatives of countries such as United
States of America (USA), Canada, France, Czech Republic, Belgium, Germany,
Greece and Brazil to mention a few will be present.

NB: There is limited seating for the media, please confirm your attendance
early to avoid disappointment at this historic meeting.
