Western Cape Sport and Recreation and SAFA to sign Memorandum of
Understanding with Netherlands Stars in Their Eyes Foundation, 1 Sept

Western Cape benefits early from 2010

29 August 2006

Communities of the Western Cape are set to benefit early from the benefits
that accrue from the 2010 World Cup when the provincial Government and South
African Football Association (SAFA) will sign a historic Memorandum of
Understanding with a Netherlands based organisation, the Stars in Their Eyes
Foundation on Friday, 1 September 2006.

In terms of the agreement which has been endorsed by the national Ministry
of Sport and Recreation and SAFA, Stars in Their Eyes Foundation, will
immediately unlock a flood of opportunities for six identified communities in
the Western Cape. Netherlands’ Federation Internationale de Football
Association (FIFA) accredited coaches will come to share their skills and
expertise with six clubs in each of the regions of the province, twinning
agreements with schools and communities in a wide range of development
initiatives such as community building workshops, capacity and leadership
training programmes, schools exchange programmes and e-learning projects. Stars
in Their Eyes Foundation have the full support and endorsement of the Dutch
Royal Football Association.

This project, the brainchild of the Stars in Their Eyes Foundation, stands
to benefit 40 communities by 2010 when it is in full swing. The six communities
identified in the launch phase will be increased progressively. The project
will be biased towards the rural and poor urban communities, to ensure that the
sustainable development was accessible to the marginalised.

MEC Jacobs says, "I am thrilled by this gesture of goodwill and as
government we will provide all the necessary support to ensure this critical
intervention is a success. It is up to SAFA to put their shoulder to the wheel
to make sure that they help identify these communities". The MEC of Cultural
Affairs and Sport, the six SAFA regional presidents and the directors of Stars
in their Eyes Foundation will honour the signing ceremony.
