Women in Tourism will share the stage at a one-day summit being hosted by
the Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism in KwaZulu-Natal. The summit will
give the women a platform to share ideas and experiences.
They will be expected to come up with suggestions on how they can improve
their role in the sector. Arts, Culture and Tourism MEC Mrs Weziwe Thusi will
deliver the keynote address.
The theme for the summit will be "Tourism opens doors for women". Mrs Thusi
says "It is important for these important stakeholders to be given a chance to
examine their role in the tourism industry and make suggestions that will
enable the sector to grow."
The summit will focus mainly on small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).
The summit will also be attended by representatives from local and district
municipalities, tourism associations and community based organisations.
Tourism is regarded by all spheres of government as a sector that can
contribute immensely to economic growth and job creation. It is therefore of
critical importance that women play a significant role in this sector.
The summit is scheduled as follows:
Date: 30 October 2007
Venue: Durban, Royal Hotel
Time: 09h00
The media is invited to witness and report on this summit.
