W Jacobs to host netball tournament, 22 - 23 Sept

Siyabulela campaign

21 September 2006

In yet another demonstration of commitment to delivery, a provincial netball
tournament will be held at the O R Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha over two days,
Friday, 22 September and Saturday, 23 September 2006.

MEC Whitey Jacobs announced during his inaugural budget vote in May this
year that a netball tournament would be organised during Women's Month to
highlight the plight of girls and women against child abuse and domestic
violence. However, due to the federation's fixtures it had to be deferred to
the last week of September.

Thirty teams of under 19s, under 21s and seniors from all six regions of the
Western Cape will battle it out to claim the ultimate glory of being crowned
first winners of this inaugural tournament. There will be an exhibition match
between Western Province and Boland on Saturday. This match has been arranged
to prove the champion between these traditional rivals. Boland have been
crowned Spar champions after an intense competition in Port Elizabeth about
three weeks ago. The final is expected to be played in the early afternoon on
Saturday.
