MEC Mzonke "Whitey" Jacobs will on Wednesday, 22 February, hand over sports
equipment valued at thousands of rands to the Mitchell's Plain, Nyanga,
Philippi and Gugulethu clusters in an effort to capacitate schools for
competitive sport. This long awaited gesture from the department will coincide
with the official launch of a multi-purpose court at Hazeldene Primary in
Mitchell's Plain.
As part of the department's facility provisioning strategy, Hazeldene and
Searidge primary schools in Mitchell's Plain are some of the beneficiaries for
this financial year. The multi-purpose court at Hazeldene Primary and the
indoor court at Seadridge will both cater for netball, tennis and
volleyball.
At the same function, Sport Trust will distribute kit and equipment worth
R200 000 to the same clusters as part of their contribution to the development
of sport.
