MEC Jacobs will put smiles on the faces of deserving artists when he will be
announcing the disbursement of a whopping R9 million to cultural organisations
of the Western Cape at a fitting function to be held at the Cape Peninsula
University of Technology, Bellville Campus on Thursday, 26 October 2006.
The symbolic handover will be attended by representatives of 88 professional
and community based organisations that are successful and members of the
Cultural Commission. This year's funding budget represents a moderate increase
of nearly 20% from the R7,593 million distributed last year. MEC Jacobs says
"this contribution from the government will go a long way to entrench some
struggling organisations in the cultural industry. We are providing them with
wheels to drive their artistic careers to greater heights. Government
interventions such as this one will make it possible for others to go on to
represent the Western Cape at national and international levels."
The speakers' programme that includes Minister Jacobs and the chairperson of
the Cultural Commission will be interspersed with cultural performances.
