Africa and Senegal
1 February 2007
Pretoria: The Governments of South Africa and Senegal have today signed an
Agreement on Civil Aviation Security Co-operation that will enhance their
measures against terrorism in air transport systems.
The two countries acknowledge the need to share information and to exchange
expertise on issues pertaining to air transport security with a view to
considering and implementing more concrete and better co-ordinated measures
that will protect air transport services.
The Parties undertake to:
* exchange professional experience in the field of airport security
management
* to share any analyses and information aimed at protecting civil
aviation
* to promote civil aviation security in general with emphasis on airport
security within their respective territories.
The Parties shall also establish a Joint Aviation Security Committee in
charge of appraising the co-operation between the civil aviation security
authorities, to organise training, expertise and visits to facilities.
The Joint Aviation Security Committee shall be composed of two officials
from each Party and it shall be able, if required to invite experts from other
sectors to discuss issues relating to their respective airports and other areas
of civil aviation security. The Committee shall meet every other year,
alternately in Johannesburg and in Dakar, under the chairpersonship of the host
country.
Today's Co-operation Agreement is a complimentary development to the
Bilateral Air Services Agreement signed on 30 June 1996.
