Trade and Industry to host Small Business summit, 13 to 14 Nov

Department of Trade and Industry (dti) Annual Small Business
summit gets underway

7 November 2006

The Department of Trade and Industry will be hosting its annual Small
Business summit at the Cape Town Sun, from 13 to 14 November 2006.

The summit targets all small medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and other
stakeholders in the small business sector and is designed to encourage dialogue
among them on the challenges facing the sector and to share best practices in
SMME development in South Africa.

In accordance with the theme of the summit, the Minister of the Department
of Trade and Industry, Mr Mandisi Mpahlwa, will also inaugurate the newly
appointed Small Business Advisory Council.

This is another attempt by government to continuously fast track the process
of growing small businesses and ensures that they play a meaningful role in the
fight against poverty, unemployment and economic growth.

In addition to key role players, the summit will be attended by leading
public sector role players across all tiers of government whose departments
offer small enterprise development support, organised business associations,
private sector companies involved in small enterprise development and academic
and research institutions focusing on small enterprise development.
