The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) has taken cognisance of media
reports that say China has announced that it has concluded a draft agreement to
restrict Chinese textile exports to South Africa to protect local
producers.
The Department would like to reiterate that there is a draft agreement under
discussion that has not been finalised yet. With technical discussions on
elements of the agreement continuing with the Chinese side, the Department is
unable to comment on or discuss the content of the document.
