T Nombembe on dismissal of B Mohlala

Media statement on the dismissal of Bridget Mohlala (Business
Executive for Operations and Transaction Management)

3 December 20007

The Auditor-General, T Nombembe, today announced the dismissal of its
Business Executive for Operations and Transactions Management, Bridget Mohlala,
after the chairperson of an independent disciplinary enquiry found her guilty
on various allegations of financial misconduct.

Ms Mohlala has been on protective suspension while certain allegations of
financial misconduct in her business unit were being investigated. On 30
November, the chairperson of the independent enquiry recommended that Ms
Mohlala be dismissed with immediate effect after he found her guilty of serious
misconduct including financial mismanagement as stipulated in the Public Audit
Act of 2004.

The recommendation of the disciplinary chairperson was approved by the
Auditor-General's top management and Ms Mohlala's dismissal will be effective
from 3 December 2007. Says Africa Boso, Auditor-General spokesman: "While we
acknowledge and value Ms Mohlala's contribution during her time in this office,
as the country's supreme audit institution we always encourage our employees to
lead by example at all times when it comes to dealing with public finances. As
one of the custodians of the taxpayers' resources, we have zero tolerance for
financial mismanagement. This is one of our founding principles and we have to
live by it and act as a role model to those we audit and the public at
large."
