MEC Mhlahlo to launch projects at Tsolwana Municipality

Eastern Cape MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and Transport, Mr Thobile
Mhlahlo, will visit Ntabethemba in the Tsolwana Municipality, Chris Hani
District, on Tuesday, 12 June 2007.

The programme will start at 10h00 with a "March Against Crime and Drug
Abuse" by learners from the district, followed by a sod turning at the spot
identified for the building of a Junior Traffic Training Centre.

MEC Mhlahlo will further hand over two graders for maintenance of roads
within the district and 800 bicycles to learners as part of the rollout process
of our Shova Lula Bicycle Project.

He will welcome 14 newly-appointed Tsolwana municipality-based Sakha Isizwe
Community Based Transportation Programme household contractors.

This is in addition to the current 395 household contractors within the
Chris Hani district and 1 995 household contractors within the province.

These households maintain certain stretches of road and obtain salaries from
the department. Their work entails road maintenance, upgrading, construction,
focus on roadside animal management, fencing, pedestrian safety, footpaths,
non-motorised transport, gabion basket manufacturing, rangers etc.
