MEC Mhlahlo to launch a battle plan against crime for
peace

5 June 2007

Eastern Cape MEC for Safety and Liaison, Mr Thobile Mhlahlo, will officially
announce his plans for ensuring that Eastern Cape is crime free, when he
presents the "Battle Plan against Crime for Peace" at a media launch to be held
on the 3rd Floor, Golden Mile Building in Port Elizabeth on Friday, 8 June 2007
at 10h00. This plan emanates from MEC Mhlahlo's policy statement, which he
presented to the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature on 15 March 2007, where he
declared 2007 as the "year of extensive mass mobilisation against crime".

It features activities that seek to extensively mobilise the people of the
Eastern Cape against crime in preparation for 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond.
On the same day at 11h00, MEC Mhlahlo will join a March against Crime, which
will start at the EP Cricket Grounds Entrance, Park Drive and Forbes Avenue.
The march will end at the City Hall, where all religious leaders and
congregants, community police forum members, business leaders, community based
organisations and schools will convene for the launch of a signature campaign
against crime, featuring a prayer service against crime.

All members of the media are cordially invited to these sessions.
