The Department of Roads and Transport in the Eastern Cape will host a gala
dinner for Women in the Transport Sector on Tuesday, 7 February 2006, from
18h00 to 21h00 at the Regent Hotel in East London.
The purpose of the function is to acknowledge the role of women in the
Transport Sector i.e. bus industry, taxi industry, rail, maritime, aviation,
roads construction etc. With the implementation of the Transport Sector Black
Economic Empowerment (BEE) Charter to commence soon, the Department is
attempting to start repositioning women of the Eastern Cape in order to ensure
that they seize the opportunities presented by our young democracy.
This initiative further seeks to develop a platform for women to interact on
how best they can deal with the challenges that confront them in this sector.
The function will be addressed by the MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and
Transport Mr Thobile Mhlahlo.
